IM FLUSS III
In-situ Exhibition IM FLUSS III
AFRA
May 10 – October 26, 2025
Under the Reussegg highway bridge, Lucerne
Installation AFRA continues to remain on site beyond the official exhibition period.
Organized and coordinated by the Visarte project group KIF – Kunst im Fluss.
Curated by Monika Kiss Horvath, with an introduction by Claudia Spinelli.
The group exhibition featured works by Lang/Baumann, Jo Achermann, and me.
My contribution, a bright red LED neon installation titled AFRA, addresses the legally permitted street prostitution in the nearby industrial area of Ibach and makes the realities of sex work visible. The lettering, based on the handwriting of a sex worker, creates a link between a personal story and the wider public discourse.
AFRA, the patron saint of sex workers, stands for respect, empathy and a society willing to confront stigmatized subjects. As art in public space, the work complements the city of Lucerne in its social engagement.
A special thank you goes to Eliane Burkart of the Lisa Association for the insightful conversations and for facilitating contact with the sex workers.
