CONQUERED CONCRETE
2019
Video Performance, one channel, one minute, with sound, together with Olivia Lecomte.
In our one-minute video performance, which we were able to present at the international dance festival in Budapest in 2019 and which the cantonal art commission acquired for the canton of Lucerne, a fascinating and humorous examination of the relationship between people and architecture unfolds. Wearing a dazzling sequined dress, the protagonist succeeds in "taming" the modern, angular exposed concrete detached house with a self-made bow and arrow. With yellow ribbons attached to the building like a Roman carriage, she tries to get a grip on the sharp lines and 90° angles of the house.
This wild story is more than just a game - it is a powerful allegory of the tension between feminine expression and the rigid, often perceived coolness of modern architecture. As Olivia desperately pulls at the strings, the house becomes a symbol of the challenges that society and its structures impose on us.
The moment she falls into the pool becomes a turning point in the performance. Her dress, which embodies the softness and curves of the feminine with its shimmering sequins, flies from the concrete floor to the roof and overcomes gravity.
By integrating shots of trees and nature, we create a contrast: the softness and roundness of the natural world are in direct opposition to the strict, straight lines of the building. This duality reflects the complexity of the human experience - the pursuit of control and order that is constantly interrupted by the unpredictability of life.
We are happy to announce that this movie has been selected as one of the top 20 films of Ork_Kota_Platform 2020. It was screened at the venues of the 21. SzólóDuó International Dance Festival from 15.01.2020 until 18.01.2020 in Budapest, Hungary.
